Description & Requirement

Leading Educators aims to develop the capacity of teacher-leaders in order to maximize student and faculty success through three primary objectives:
•        Directly improve high-need schools by increasing the skillfulness of teacher-leaders
•        Retain highly effective teachers in high-needs schools by articulating a career pathway from teaching to teacher leadership
•        Create national networks aligned around investment in teacher leadership in order to close the achievement gap
In January of 2008, Leading Educators launched a pilot program in New Orleans as a partnership between FirstLine Schools and New Leaders for New Schools. To date Leading Educators has trained 47 teacher-leaders from 29 schools across the city. Building upon the New Orleans pilot and Teaching Leaders (UK), Leading Educators is now an independent 501c3 organization assembling an ambitious team to expand the program nationally. In partnership with Absolute Return for Kids, Teaching Leaders, New Leaders for New Schools, NewSchools Venture Fund and FirstLine Schools, our expansion model aims to serve 13 regions by 2016.



As a key member of the National team, the Director of Session Development will have direct responsibility for the overall development and quality of the national training program design, as well as the integration of learning across various regions.  
Reporting directly to the Chief Program Officer, the role will have the following responsibilities:
Session Design

•        Designs and refines the National Fellowship curriculum and session modules; ensures development of innovative and high quality programs
•        Develops infrastructure for all training sessions by establishing methods and procedures for training, delivery, evaluation, measurement and reporting
•        Manages the integration and implementation of the session content across regions; creates a central repository for all training and development content and materials
•        Designs and develops original content; obtains intellectual property licenses and manages IP materials to include training manuals, online platforms, video and digital media, etc.
•        Develops key relationships with academic and professional organizations to validate and certify  curriculum and ensure its alignment to masters degree coursework in Educational Leadership

Session Delivery  & Feedback

•        Provides and models the direct delivery of session modules; travels to various regions as an expert presenter and trainer
•        Provides expertise on best practices of adult learning and teaching
•        Conducts research and a continuing study of leadership development and adult professional development best practices and methodologies to maintain quality sessions
•        Evaluates the effectiveness of session modules and provides feedback and opportunities for continuous improvement for regional and national staff

Regional Strategy

•        Collaborates with Director of Program Operations to set strategic direction and ensure delivery of outstanding program experiences across regions

•        Designs coaching and training sessions aligned with LE mission and values


The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience in a high-performing public school. In addition, the candidate will have experience in designing and delivering professional development.
The candidate should also possess the following:
•        Leadership experiences in highly effective, high-need public schools
•        Significant experiences designing and leading formal professional development and coaching sessions for adult learners
•        Experience in developing and implementing training assessments and evaluation tools
•        Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
•        A collaborative and results-oriented approach to projects
•        Excellent written and oral communication skills
•        Relentless focus on creating outstanding urban schools
•        A strong sense of purpose regarding social justice and/or educational equity
•        Travel required
