Description & Requirement THE ORGANIZATION: Leading Educators aims to develop the capacity of teacher-leaders in order to maximize student and faculty success through three primary objectives:
• Directly improve high-need schools by increasing the skillfulness of teacher-leaders
• Retain highly effective teachers in high-needs schools by articulating a career pathway from teaching to teacher leadership
• Create national networks aligned around investment in teacher leadership in order to close the achievement gap
In January of 2008, Leading Educators launched a pilot program in New Orleans as a partnership between FirstLine Schools and New Leaders for New Schools. To date Leading Educators has trained 47 teacher-leaders from 29 schools across the city. Building upon the New Orleans pilot and Teaching Leaders (UK), Leading Educators is now an independent 501c3 organization assembling an ambitious team to expand the program nationally. In partnership with Absolute Return for Kids, Teaching Leaders, New Leaders for New Schools, NewSchools Venture Fund and FirstLine Schools, our expansion model aims to serve 13 regions by 2016.
THE POSITION:
As Leading Educators continues to grow our scale and impact regionally, we are seeking a Director of Coaching to manage the program operations of the regional teams in a way that maximizes the teams’ effectiveness and enables the regions to reach its goals. The Director of Coaching serves several regional needs: overseeing program content implementation and delivery, team performance management and advising team leaders on strategic direction, overseeing the logistics of all program session events, ensuring the regional teams have the resources and talent needed and maximizing efficiency and accuracy around the regions’ critical goals.
Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, the Director of Coaching will have the following responsibilities:
Operations Management
• Manage the execution of the program components of the Leading Educators National Fellowship model across several regions including formal training, coaching, recruitment and selection, and school visits trips
• Drive performance and operations of Lead Coaches across several regions with a team consisting of 3-5 direct reports
• Coordinate cross-team functions; collaborate with national team to ensure excellent program content; partner with regional lead coaches to refine session curriculum to meet the needs of the regions; partner with data manager to ensure effective measuring and reporting of program data
• Identify key external vendors, facilitators, and presenters; manage relationships in support of a comprehensive approach to each session
• Manage communication of status of active sessions and events to all stakeholders on a regular basis including content team, regional teams, and internal operation team
• Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans to meet organizational objectives and timelines
• Serve as liaison between regional leaders and national team members
Team Leadership and Management
• Manage the planning, communications, and operations of the regional leadership team
• Support the regional managers in driving toward goals and objectives; regularly assess team-wide progress and identify successes and challenges; develop solutions to address gaps and adjust course as necessary
• Facilitate ongoing performance management across key regional goals and initiatives; support overall effectiveness of the team by providing feedback and support, learning and development opportunities and additional resources as needed
• Oversee the implementation of all program content and events for regional Lead Coaches, including regular meetings to provide program feedback and ideas, as well as relationship and team building opportunities
Program Content and Delivery
• Works closely with the Chief Program Officer to create and execute the regional strategic and operating plans, ensuring that regions maximize opportunities and deliver an excellent program experience to all fellows
• Manage regional leadership team to oversee successful implementation of all elements of the fellowship programs including fellow recruitment and assessment, training and coaching session delivery, program effectiveness and measurement, and appropriate allocation of internal and external staff and resources
• Collaborate with Director of Session Development to ensure program content and/or curriculum meets goals, objectives, and individuals needs of fellows

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have leadership experience in a high-performing public school. In addition, the candidate will have experience delivering coaching and/or training to adults.
The candidate should also possess the following:
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience with an emphasis on professional development, project planning, and team management experience
• A deep understanding of the key practices of highly effective, high-need public schools
• Ability to thrive in a goal-oriented, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment, including the ability to be flexible in project execution
• Proven record of managing a team of direct reports to accomplish ambitious results
• Strong project management skills, including successful leadership of projects from planning phase through implementation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent reasoning and strategic thinking skills
• Ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
• A collaborative and results-oriented approach to projects
• A strong sense of purpose regarding social justice and/or educational equity
• Travel is required
