Director of Agriculture (12 month position)

DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES: Provide leadership to implement the strategic vision and coordinate all aspects of the agriculture department’s operations.   Provide focused outreach to promote linkages across the region and state; work with relevant institutions/organizations and local farmers to promote both conventional and sustainable agriculture in the Northeast Texas region. Teach courses in Agriculture program as needed; recruit, retain, and advise students; develop curricula; identify and pursue external funding sources for program development, and participate in departmental and college governance as part of a team.  

SALARY: Salary range $52,543 - $63,496. The College offers health, dental, life, income protection insurance, and an excellent retirement program.

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  A Bachelor’s degree is required. It is preferred that the successful candidate will possess a Master's degree or higher with at least 18 graduate hours in Agricultural Sciences or related discipline.  The candidate should be a strong communicator and be able to draw interested people from various perspectives and backgrounds together in their shared interest in agriculture.  Candidates should be able to manage and lead large scale projects, and have field experience in applied agricultural research, business, marketing and small farm planning.  Previous teaching experience is required.
