Description & Requirement UMUC is currently seeking a Director, MAT Out-of-State and Student Success Initiative who will report to the Chair, Teacher Education. The UMUC Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program, while primarily online, also incorporates face-to-face student experiences and a required semester-long school-based student internship prior to graduation. This is a national program with students in multiple states. Specific responsibilities include:
• In coordination with the MAT Program Director and other university offices, determining the pertinent policies regulations and federal and municipality statutes of states (other than Maryland) where students reside and will complete their internships
• Assisting out-of-state students in meeting field and clinical experience requirements outside of Maryland, including working with local school district and/or state representatives
• Assisting out-of-state students in meeting the MAT curriculum requirements related to K-12 educational standards in students’ home states
• In coordination with the MAT Director of Field and Clinical Experiences, working with local school district representatives, e.g. principals and teachers, to secure and support participation for students’ field experiences and internship. This includes activities related to student responsibilities, and to mentor teacher responsibilities
• Working with the department Chair and other members of the Education department and representatives of the Enrollment Management department to develop and administer initiatives and processes that ensure student success at the following key stages: recruitment, advising and retention
• Performing other job-related duties as assigned
A master’s degree with at least (5) years of relevant experience is required. Teaching and administrative experience in P-12 schools is also required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical. Familiarity with interpreting and executing federal, state and/or school district policies, regulations, and laws is strongly preferred, as well as knowledge and experience of MAT requirements. State certification is also preferred. Experience with college or university-based teacher education is strongly preferred.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
