Description & Requirement Inver Hills Community College seeks a Dean of English, Reading, and Academic Development to join our team of administrators to provide academic leadership to the college. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean serves on the college’s Management Team of administrators, and provides day-to-day administration of English and Reading programming as well as of the Library, the Learning Center, and Center for Teaching and Learning initiatives, including Service Learning and Learning Community/Integrative Learning.
The Dean supervises approximately 50 faculty and staff. In addition a variety of projects/programs, advisory boards and special initiatives are facilitated by Academic Development leadership.

Salary: $72,169 - $115,474 depending on education and related experience.
Responsibilities:
• Provide educational and administrative leadership for the Center for Teaching and Learning to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning; student development; and faculty and staff professional development.
• Provide day-to-day administration for English, Reading, and related programs and for the Library and the Learning Center.
• Hire, supervise, develop and evaluate faculty and staff.
• Develop and manage the annual budget for assigned academic disciplines, Learning Center, and Center for Teaching and Learning initiatives.
• Lead curriculum review and development; develop new programs.
• Expand online learning and incorporation of other learning technologies into curriculum.
• Review and evaluate program operations on an ongoing basis; facilitate program review.
• Foster development and use of student-centered, active and experiential learning strategies.
• Promote assessment of student academic achievement and campus-wide assessment of student learning.
• Participate in the formulation and realization of a college-wide vision.
• Help sustain a culture of Learning Communities and integrative learning.
• Lead Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) projects.
• Secure grant funding for academic programs; develop collaborative relationships with the business community and other institutions of higher learning.
• Lead or serve on college committees including the course placement assessment committee in collaboration with other deans and directors.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree, preferably related to one of the disciplines to be supervised
Five years of experience in academic leadership, project leadership in higher education, and/or college level teaching
Collaborative management style
Experience with quality improvement
Experience with diverse populations
Demonstrated support for the community college mission, Learning Communities, integrative learning, service learning, assessment of student learning, and innovative integration of technology in the classroom
Preferred Qualifications:
• Doctorate in a field related to one of the supervised disciplines, or in Educational Leadership
• Experience in providing support and empowering the work of the faculty, staff and students of the division in light of the mission and strategic plans of the college and MnSCU
• Experience with campus-wide learning assessment
• Thorough understanding and appreciation of the collective bargaining process and skill in the administration of employment contracts
• Ability to build an academic division that is founded on communication and collaboration
• Leadership in areas such as assessment, program review, accreditation and global education
• Ability to identify and address problems and participate effectively in short and long range planning.
• A strong commitment to online learning and innovative integration of technology in the classroom
• Ability to respond creatively to new issues and exhibit the spirit of entrepreneurship in the work of the division and the college
• Ability or experience in writing and securing grants for institutional advancement
Founded in 1970, Inver Hills is a comprehensive community college offering 26 degree options including the Associate in Arts (A.A.), a liberal education degree that leads to transfer to four-year colleges; the Associate in Fine Art (A.F.A.) degrees in studio arts and music; and the career-related Associate in Science (A.S.) and Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degrees in leading occupational areas such as nursing, paralegal, computer networking, law enforcement, human services, business, emergency medical services, teacher education, and more.
Located 10 minutes from downtown St. Paul, Inver Hills is an open door community college which serves over 7000 credit students each semester. Approximately 25% of course sections are offered online and online instructors participate in Quality Matters.
