Description & Requirement COMMERCIAL ART FACULTY
2 Full-Time Probationary Faculty positions available
(This is the two-year college equivalent of a tenure-track position.)
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Beginning Fall Semester 2012/August 22, 2012
ORGANIZATION: Minneapolis Community and Technical College is a two-year college located in downtown Minneapolis, serving the diverse, multicultural communities of the Twin Cities. MCTC enrolls 50% students of color. The college provides a comprehensive offering of developmental, liberal arts, pre-professional, professional, and technical programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Instruct traditional, blended and online lecture and lab courses – day and evening, weekend.
• Work as a team with program faculty, advisors and allied faculty and staff to attain department and college goals
• Prepare course syllabi
• Develop and keep current in curriculum, technology and instructional materials for the program
• Utilize computer technology in the development and presentation of instructional materials
• Maintain appropriate office hours
• Participate as a faculty member in college activities and committees
• Assist in recruitment and retention of students; evaluate student learning
• Schedule courses, maintain labs and equipment
• Maintain an active contacts with business/industry partners
• Work closely with the responsible academic dean
• Develop program budget for supplies and equipment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor or above degree in a practical application of art program and 4000 hours of occupational experience or
• Associate degree or two year diploma (90 quarter credits) in a practical application of art program and 6000 hours of occupational experience or
• One year diploma in a practical application of art program and 7000 hours of occupational experience or
• Courses for credit or clock hours (1 quarter credit/20 hours or 1 semester credit/30 hours) with an appropriate title or prefix and occupational hours totaling 8000.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
• 8000 hours of occupational experience in the application of art knowledge for use commercially (as in industry), not in creation of art objects for sale
RECENCY REQUIREMENT:
• One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Preferred: Masters in: Graphic Design, and/or Web and Interactive Design,
• Foundational Graphic Design teaching experience,
• Relationship to, or, K-12 design/art experience,
• Ability to teach Design/Art History (Art history Minor),
• Web Design applications and interactivity, web design production,
• Extensive design industry experience Graphic Design Print, packaging, and production,
• Experience with online course management software
• Demonstrated success working with diverse populations
SALARY: Based on education and experience in accordance with the Minnesota State College Faculty contract, including an excellent package of employee benefits.
