Description & Requirement

Our client, Peer Health Exchange (“PHE”), is a national non-profit organization that gives teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. They do this by training college students to teach a comprehensive health curriculum in public high schools that lack health education.

Since its founding in 2003, PHE has trained more than 4,000 college student volunteers to deliver effective health education to over 40,000 public high school students in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area. PHE recently completed its next major strategic plan with the help of New Profit, Inc. and the Monitor Group, two significant investors. The plan has three major priorities--deepening impact, investing in more robust program evaluation and developing and testing additional methods for impact, all while serving 120,000 teens over the next four years. To achieve these priorities, PHE will grow from a staff of 28 and a budget of $3MM today to a staff of more than 100 and a budget of $14MM in 2015.

The primary responsibilities of the PHE Chief Officer of External Affairs are to develop and execute PHE’s external strategy, oversee PHE’s External Affairs team (including Development and Communications) and partner with the CEO and COO as a key member of the Executive Team. The Chief Officer of External Affairs will work closely with the National Board of Directors and local Boards of Overseers. The Chief Officer of External Affairs reports to the CEO.

The Chief Officer of External Affairs will be a key member of PHE’s executive team. Specifically, s/he will:

- Develop and lead PHE’s external strategy by:
+ Building PHE’s public presence, including brand and media relations
+ Supervising and supporting PHE’s outreach and development work, including   developing PHE’s local board strategy and communications

+ Developing and stewarding growth capital prospects in coordination with the CEO and National Director of Development
+ Supporting the Development team in building the systems and relationships necessary for national and local operating revenues
- Partner with the CEO and the COO as a key member of the Executive Team
