Director of Business/Industry Services

Mid-South Community College, a comprehensive, rapidly-evolving institution with a nationally-recognized and award-winning workforce development initiative, provides Crittenden County, Arkansas, and surrounding areas with dynamic learning and training opportunities.
 
With a credit enrollment of 2,500 students, the college also supports regional business and industry with customized contract and credit offerings. Particular areas of emphasis include diesel technology, manufacturing and machining, renewable energy, information systems, business management and safety, and allied health.

Through its participation in the Arkansas Delta Training and Education Consortium (ADTEC), MSCC has received regional and national recognition for four consecutive years. Most recently, the consortium earned a prestigious Bellwether Award from the Community College Futures Assembly for outstanding and innovative Workforce Development programs and practices. In 2009, ADTEC received recognition in a workforce training report commissioned by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The consortium won a 2007 Southern Growth Policies Board Innovator of the Year Award and a 2008 U.S. DOL Recognition of Excellence Award for Building a Regionally Focused Workforce Strategy.

Located in eastern Arkansas just minutes from Memphis, Tenn., Mid-South Community College is close to outstanding hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreational sports, as well as all the amenities of an urban center including professional sports, museums and art galleries, opera, and the famous music of Beale Street.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a business-related field from a regionally accredited institution and five years of experience in sales/marketing, management, and/or related field preferably in a community college environment; strong ability to work independently; marketing and promotional skills; basic understanding of and experience in economic development; necessary financial/accounting/analytical skills to manage a budget; grant writing and management skills; effective leadership and organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and an ability to establish positive relationships  with a wide variety of businesses/ industries.
Candidates should also have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including development and use of databases or spreadsheets; solid experience working with economically disadvantaged or at-risk populations; the ability to travel to various training, work and other sites and to attend meetings within and outside the college’s service area; knowledge of employer expectations of technical skills and work ethic skills related to the college’s service area, and knowledge of the Arkansas Workforce system.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Business/Industry Services reports to the Associate Vice President for Workforce Technology with responsibility for researching workforce training needs and best practices; developing new training programs for area businesses and public workforce agencies; improving and expanding current programs, and planning and coordinating training programs and workforce services. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
•        develop and monitor a departmental plan which supports the college’s mission and strategic goals
• develop and deliver high quality training programs responsive to the needs of business/industry in the college’s service area.
• develop partnerships of stakeholders in the college’s service area and in the state in support of economic development and workforce improvement
• seek external resources and assist in applying for grant funding and other avenues for program sustainability
• establish and implement course and program outcome evaluation tools
• monitor progress and outcomes of projects to ensure constituent satisfaction
• prepare and submit internal and external reports
• engage in community outreach to build strong partnerships with business/industry and build community awareness of the college’s programs and services to the community
• supervise the activities and training of contracted trainers.
• participate in the marketing and recruitment of participants
• work collaboratively with the college’s consortia partners
• serve on college committees and task forces
• supervise, schedule, and evaluate support personnel
• Perform general administrative duties required for program and project success.
 
Salary: $50,000 base salary augmented by a percentage of contract sales. Full college benefits, including retirement; health, life, dental & disability insurance; a flex benefit plan; and tuition waivers for employee and family.
