Description & Requirement

The University Controller's Division is seeking a highly professional, skilled, and dynamic individual for the position of Associate Controller. Under limited direction, the successful candidate will be responsible for recommending, implementing, and administering accounting policies and procedures including internal and external compliance requirements and risk assessment. In addition, this individual may coordinate and manage unrestricted accounting, taxation, finance systems management, payroll accounting, purchasing/accounts payable accounting, and contract and grant accounting functions for the University as a whole and/or for the Health Sciences Center. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of federal and state financial regulations, and university financial policies and procedures; be knowledgeable of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications; be knowledgeable of current changes and/or developments in federal, state, local accounting laws, and university policies and procedures. Other responsibilities will include preparation of consolidated financial statements, workpapers, various financial reports, oversight of the audit process, and long- and short-range strategic planning.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.   
Preferred Qualifications:  Experience:

More than five years managing professional accounting staff in a Controller's division of an institution of higher education.

More than five years of professional accounting in a large private and/or public sector financial environment.

More than five years of experience designing and implementing complex accounting systems in compliance with GAAP, GASB, and DCAA.

More than five years overseeing the consolidated University audit, including review and compilation of work papers, data analyses, and detailed reports.

More than five years with designing and implementing long- and short-range strategic planning.

More than five years with cost accounting and asset/liability modeling.

More than five years overseeing compliance requirements, particularly Federal and State contract compliance.


CPA/CMA Certification.


Master's Degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business IT.


Advanced level of knowledge pertaining to GASB regulations and other federal and state governmental regulations and policies.

Advanced level of proficiency using MS Excel and Access for reporting and analysis.

Advanced level of proficiency using Banner Finance, or similar integrated accounting system.
