Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) invites applications for a fixed term, full time Assistant Professor of Philosophy to begin August 2010. SMSU, one of seven universities in the Minnesota System, provides a diverse curriculum of liberal arts and selected professional programs. The University is located in the town of Marshall (pop.13,000), in rural southwest Minnesota, 155 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul and 90 miles from Sioux Falls, SD.

Responsibilities include teaching a broad range of courses at the beginning and intermediate levels—four courses per semester. Must be willing and able to teach introductory and intermediate logic specifically. Opportunities exist for developing online courses as well. Candidate must be willing to assist with other campus and departmental duties as they arise. Duties also include student advising, contribution to student growth and development, evaluating student performance, scholarly activity, and service to the University community.


Minimum Qualifications
· Ph.D. in philosophy preferred, ABD with firm date of completion considered

· AOS open

· AOC open, though looking for someone who augments current strengths in the department

· Ability to teach beginning and intermediate logic

· Must have a strong grounding in the history of philosophy

· Candidate must have a strong commitment to the role of philosophy in liberal education

· Strong evidence of quality teaching in philosophy required

· Demonstrated abilities/competence in instructional technology, including online instruction and commitment to interdisciplinary education is preferred
