Description & Requirement

Applications are sought for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, who will focus on neurophysiological mechanisms underlying obesity and/or regulation of physical activity, energy balance and/or metabolism. The successful candidate will be expected to participate actively in a multidisciplinary University of Iowa Obesity Initiative (OI), encompassing research and education.  New faculty will complement the University’s existing expertise to form the core of this ambitious initiative.  Participation in the OI will be an important component in performance evaluations.  Outstanding research space with state-of-the- art shared instrumentation is available.  Successful applicants must show clear potential to secure external research funding and be interested in teaching in a growing undergraduate major. All applicants must have a relevant doctoral degree and productive post-doctoral research experience.  

Faculty in the Department of Health and Human Physiology collaborate with scientists throughout the University including those in the College of Engineering and in the adjacent Carver College of Medicine.  Start-up support will be highly competitive with other institutions and ample laboratory space is available.

Education Requirement:        Terminal degree (PhD in physiology, neuroscience, neurobiology or related disciplines or MD, DVM or PharmD)

Required Qualifications:        A sustained record of exemplary research productivity in regulation of physical activity, energy balance and metabolism as related to obesity and/or associated diseases

Desirable Qualifications:        postdoctoral experience in research related to neural regulation of physical activity, energy balance and metabolism as related to obesity and/or associated diseases.  

teaching experience in coursework related to neural regulation of physical activity, energy balance, metabolism, obesity and/or associated diseases.
 
Previous independent teaching experience.
 
Experience in seeking and/or obtaining external research funding
