Description & Requirement POSITION DESCRIPTION: The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in all levels of modern dance technique, improvisation, dance composition and a course in somatic practice. Faculty member will also be expected to teach dance academic courses (e.g., dance history, anatomy/kinesiology for dance, etc), create works on student dancers for faculty concerts, serve as artistic director for student or faculty concerts, advise majors and supervise graduate student research, seek funded research opportunities. Other teaching opportunities may include developing and teaching on-line courses and other courses related to research interests and areas of expertise. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the department, school and university through committee service and faculty shared-governance responsibilities. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain personal scholarship and professional contacts with local, state, and national associations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum: Candidate must have an MFA in Dance, a minimum of three years university-level teaching experience; significant performing/choreographing experience; and certification in a Somatic discipline (e.g. Iyengar Yoga, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, Body-Mind Centering, etc).
Preferred: Doctorate in Dance or related field (in addition to required MFA); and/or experience in dance and technology; and/or substantial experience in African and/or African Diasporic forms.
