Description & Requirement RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Agriculture invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with the possibility to teach one summer term. The position is primarily a teaching and research appointment in plant/soil science with other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Required Skills:
• Earned Ph.D. by May 31, 2011
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and industry representatives.
• The potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program that complements existing programs in The Department of Agriculture at Texas State University
• The ability to teach courses in both plant and soil science at both the graduate and undergraduate levels
• The ability to mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students
Preferred skills:
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications including those for designing Web pages and posting course materials, etc. on the Internet
• Proficiency in a foreign language (preferably Spanish)
• Post-doctoral and/or teaching experience
• A record of publications in appropriate peer-reviewed journals
• Practical knowledge and experience with geospatial and/or remote sensing technologies
In addition to those skills listed above, the candidate will have at least 5 years of teaching or extension experience and a demonstrated consistent record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
